OUR MISSION
The Loukoumi Make A Difference Foundation is a non-profit organization that unites over 150,000 children in 30 countries worldwide to make a difference through causes they are passionate about.
WHAT WE DO
The Loukoumi Foundation was inspired by the 9 book children’s book series by author Nick Katsoris, about the fluffy lamb “Loukoumi,” named after the iconic candy. The book series teaches children, ages 4-8, life lessons of kindness, doing good deeds, anti-bullying, preserving the environment, and following their career dreams, with audio books narrated by celebrities Jennifer Aniston, Olympia Dukakis, Morgan Freeman, Nia Vardalos, Bob Costas and others.
The Loukoumi Foundation with children, ages 5-18, expands on the lessons introduced in the books, teaching children to make a difference in the world one good deed at a time. We work with over 300 schools worldwide through our Good Deed Curriculum, including monthly zooms, hosted by a different school each month in a different international city, where students worldwide collaborate on global good deed projects together.
The students also engage in meaningful projects where they take action and make a difference in the world, making philanthropy fun, not forced, and a lifelong endeavor. They visit animal and homeless shelters, children’s hospitals and nursing homes, clean beaches and parks for the environment, make a difference through the arts and sports, and whatever other projects the students, through their own voices, wish to do, using what makes them happy to make a difference in the lives of others.
IMPACT
The result is that the recipients of the good deeds benefit, but the students, as doers of the good deeds, also benefit tremendously with increased self-esteem and improved mental health, thereby achieving purpose in their lives and overall happiness.

Our Programs
The Loukoumi children’s book series and its programs, projects and partnerships form the cornerstone of our mission and outreach to more than 150,000 children and young adults in 30 countries worldwide every year, providing them early and meaningful opportunities to experience the joy of helping others while building self-confidence, learning teamwork skills, showing compassion for others and respecting the environment - life skills essential for tomorrow’s service leaders. We sponsor a curriculum in schools around the world, the Loukoumi Foundation Treatment Room at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Chef Maria Loi/Loukoumi Foundation Teaching Kitchen for the homeless at the Floating Hospital in Long Island City, the Make A Difference With Loukoumi Exhibit at the Westchester Children’s Museum, the Never Forget Letter Mailbox in Gander Newfoundland Canada for families who lost loved ones on 9-11 and other programs in cities worldwide.

LOUKOUMI FEEDS THE HUNGRY
Our Loukoumi Feeds the Hungry program has children cooking nutritious meals in venues including the Chef Maria Loi/Loukoumi Make A Difference Foundation Teaching Kitchen at the Floating Hospital in Long Island City and then bringing the food they cook to area homeless shelters. The program also teaches children and young adults the important role good nutrition plays in their physical and mental wellness as they prepare and serve warm meals to local persons in need. In preparing the meals, children learn about the health benefits of fresh, organic ingredients and how to combine them in nutritionally rich, balanced and sustainable meals. In serving the meals, children learn invaluable lessons about the fragility of our social fabric and how caring for those in need builds strong communities that value the dignity of every member.

SCHOOL CURRICULUM
The Loukoumi Make a Difference Foundation created an eight-part, interactive curriculum based on the Loukoumi book series developing social and professional skills essential to the success of tomorrow’s service leaders. The curriculum and supplemental materials are now in over 300 schools and institutions worldwide. Through our Good Deed Curriculum we design a program based on the school's needs and resources and what is best suited for the students. We ask the students to advise us what it is that they are interested in and how they want to change the world, and then we create projects with them. Students visit, animal shelters, homeless shelters, children’s hospitals, they clean up parks for the environment, they cook for the homeless, and raise money for their favorite charities, among other projects.
For more information on our curriculum email us at info@loukoumifoundation.org
“The Loukoumi series of books has been wonderful for kids and parents alike. They each have an inspiring message. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is honored to benefit from this project.”
