Autism Awareness
By Maggie Hynes
Imagine feeling alone, afraid, sad, frustrated, mad, or in pain and it is difficult to tell anyone. Well, welcome to the world of Autism. Autism Awareness is a very important topic that is not brought up as often as it should. ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) is a common disease. There are high to low signs of autism so basically, it is easy to know or kinda hard to know that someone has Autism. Oftentimes a child who has autism cannot speak or is very hard to understand. People with autism also have problems with social skills.
The picture that you see here below is the logo, which is a heart of puzzle pieces to let people know that love needs no words or to Accept, Understand, and Love. Autism does not just affect the individual but the entire family: Trips to the movies, the supermarket, family vacations, are cut short because of the unpredictability of their behavior. It's very important to have patience and to be very aware of people or children with autism.
In some schools, like mine, The Anne Hutchinson School, there is a program called peer mentoring that helps kids with autism or special needs make friends and learn social skills. Kids volunteer to do this and sit out some recess to help these kids. It is just a kind thing for kids to do and it actually helps them to understand and treat everyone the same no matter what. Make them feel special and happy, and when they are sad always have empathy and be there for them and maybe it will make them smile!!
TREAT EVERYONE WITH KINDNESS ❤️
