Loukoumi Good Deed Bus Travels to Los Angeles
The Loukoumi Good Deed Bus visited Los Angeles in December with a wonderful day co-sponsored by Loukoumi Foundation partners ECOS Earth Friendly Products and the Los Angeles Chargers. It was indeed a special day of good deeds starting at the ECOS headquarters in Cypress California. CEO Kelly Vlahakis Hanks took everyone on a tour of their amazing ECOS facility, also sharing the company’s inspiring history. LA Chargers owner Dean Spanos, who received the Loukoumi Foundation Inspiration Award last year, also spoke with the children about the importance of making a difference.
Special thanks to ECOS community relations manager and Loukoumi Foundation advisory board member Pamela Spyrs and the amazing team at ECOS for a perfect day! Children learned about how they can help the environment and participated in several activities including with Loukoumi Kids Club Board Member Justin Sather who led kids in a letter-writing program to help save acres of rainforest land in Ecuador.
The bus then visited the LA Department of Animal Services Shelter, also a partner with the LA Chargers Impact Fund. Kids purchased and donated items from the shelter’s Amazon wish list including dog and cat food and ECOS donated over 180 bottles of plant-powered ECOS Pet products. The shelter also gave children an educational tour and an opportunity to see many of the dogs and cats.
The final stop was an amazing tour of SoFi Stadium, home of the LA Chargers, organized by Ana Spanos, coordinator of the Chargers Impact Fund. Children donated books for the Chargers First Downs for First Books program and were treated to an amazing tour ending with a thrilling run through the tunnel and onto the field. With the children seated in the stadium, author Nick Katsoris also read “Loukoumi’s Good Deeds” in memory of John Aniston who originally narrated the book with his daughter Jennifer Aniston. Thank you to Dean, Susie, Ana, and John Spanos and his son for joining us on this special day and for all the support of the Los Angeles Chargers. Thank you to all the bus riders including TV Host Debbie Matenopoulos, Consul General Ioannis Stamatekos and his family, Fr. Chris and Presbytera Kalli Retelas and family, including Presbytera Cyndi Anctil for flying in from NY and wonderfully greeting all as Loukoumi the lamb. Together we made a difference!
